The University of Alaska EPSCoR program, NASA IPY and NSF IPY, Thermal State of Permafrost programs are conducting an outreach effort in conjunction with it's research focus on permafrost and infrastructure. The outreach effort has been termed the "Permafrost Health" program and consists of installing permafrost temperature monitoring systems!

Kaji and Kenji arrived Anvik by Hageland Air 4:20pm today. We desided to install permafrost monitoring site in Anvik and frost tube site in Shageluk as well before starting snow machine trip. Kenji was too busy to prepair all of the trips last night before leaving Fairbanks. Finally, no time to sleep until catch up 8:15am flight this morning. Anyway, we made to success first step of this trip. We drill 5m borehole and to install frost tube. Science teacher Jolene is great teacher and she call all of the students to make special evening class for me. All students came to school 7:00pm with good manner. We hear many impressive sharp questions!
After lecture (after 8:30pm) we finalised monitoring site and preparation for tomorrow!
