The University of Alaska EPSCoR program, NASA IPY and NSF IPY, Thermal State of Permafrost programs are conducting an outreach effort in conjunction with it's research focus on permafrost and infrastructure. The outreach effort has been termed the "Permafrost Health" program and consists of installing permafrost temperature monitoring systems!

When we wake up morning at Anvik, I saw blowing snow from school roof badly. Definitely weather is going to bad. We are worried about to stack here or at Shageluk! This makes big problem for rest of our snowmachine trip. Luckily airplane pick us up about 1 hour delay.

We decide not staying in Shageluk, but we do drop off frost tube and pick up datalogger. Shegaluk school principal brought datalogger to the runway, when we arrived Shageluk. After we staying 10 minute at Shageluk runway, we head down to the Bethel via Aniak.

Once we were at Bethel, Ron and Kathy Bowerman pick us up airport to their home. We feel very comfortable at thier house with nice dinner! We have to do one more task today at Bethel. Our retired professor "Tom" drilled permafrost temperature borehole in 1980s. We would like to find this hole and re-establish monitoring site. Kaji and Kenji are looking for this hole but we could not find today. But this is good first step for Bethel borehole project!
